NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Speech Language Pathologist – Per Diem – Physical & Speech Therapy – Per Diem – Variable Days 9:00 A.

In this role, the successful candidate Is responsible for the coverage of speech-language pathology services.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Administers Speech-Language Pathology services per physician’s written orders within 48 hours of written order.
  • Administers diagnostics assessment of the communicative function and/or swallow function to include, but not limited to, assessment of speech articulation, speech intelligibility, receptive language function, expressive language function, cognitive function relative to communicative efficacy and or swallow function, vocal quality, swallow function, reading and writing.
  • Provides treatment to patients in accordance with the individual’s professional licensure and practice, and in compliance with Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center policy.
  • Performs and documents all initial evaluations and progress notes in a timely fashion.
  • Initially and ongoing, reviews medical record, observes and interviews patients, reviews medical histories including physicians’ diagnoses and orders.
  • Practices in a safe manner that minimizes risk to patient, self and others.  Demonstrates awareness of contraindications and precautions of treatment.
  • Selects intervention strategies to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Adjusts the plan of care in response to changes in patient status.
  • Establishes short and long term goals in conjunction with the patient and formulates treatment plans consistent with these goals.
  • Provides patient and families with education in regards to disease process and therapeutic intervention to achieve goals.  Modifies educational activities considering learner needs, characteristics and capabilities.
  • Coordinates Speech-Language Pathology with other services to facilitate efficient and effective patient care.
  • Discusses treatment plan and/or associated problems with physicians and nursing staff.
  • Follows the established Policies and Procedures and Safety precautions

Documentation:

  • Documents all assessments, treatments, communication and patient/family education in the electronic medical record.
  • Documents on all departmental hand off tools to ensure continuity of care.

Participates in activities addressing quality of service

  • Seeks information regarding quality of care rendered by self and others under their supervision.
  • Provides recommendations for developing or modifying guidelines based on outcome measures, effectiveness studies and clinical observations.
  • Follows established guidelines for the delivery of Speech-Language Pathology services. (eg, critical/clinical pathways, protocols)

Professional Development

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and techniques by attending related conferences/seminars, reading appropriate journals, books etc.  Participates in inter and intra-departmental instruction.
  • romotes the profession of Speech-Language Pathology.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a New York State license in Speech-Language Pathology.
Current New York State registration.
Masters Degree from ASHA accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology.
Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association in Speech-Language Pathology.
Current certification in BLS/CPR (Preferred, not required)

Step 1

Schedule Interviews

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
